The girls’ basketball team dropped their season opener to FW North Side 47-32. According to head coach Dr. Rick Bragg, the final score was not a true indicator of the effort and hard work of the team. “We were ahead at half time and only trailed by four heading into the fourth quarter at which time our lack of depth took a toll. While we are never going to use this as an excuse, we now know we have to continue to condition in practice to get to a point where this does not happen again.” Ellie Snep led the team with 15 points and 17 rebounds, picking up where she left off from a year ago when she led the state in rebounding. Sarah Hewitt added 11 and Kayla Schipper chipped in with six points. “We had way too many turnovers which is something we can correct,” Bragg said. “We will continue to improve each day. I am so very proud of the seven kids who were in uniform and played as hard as they could for as long as they could.” Whitko will host defending 2A state champion Central Noble on Tuesday with a 7 pm tip off. “We appreciate the Whitko Nation supporting us tonight and ask they continue to get behind this team,” Bragg concluded.
