The Lady Wildcats lost a hard fought battle with Goshen 50-47 in the consolation game of the Tippecanoe Valley Thanksgiving Classic. “I do not believe in moral victories,” said head coach Dr. Rick Bragg, “but without question this was our best performance of the season. Despite the loss, we played as well as we could, executed a good game plan, and played with heart and desire which is where the expectation level is anyway.” The contest was close throughout as Goshen held a slim 14-13 lead after one quarter. Whitko jumped on Goshen in the second quarter and led 28-21 before the Redhawks scored the last seven points of the quarter to even the game at 28-28 at the half. Goshen regained the lead 38-36 heading into the last quarter at which time the game seesawed back and forth. “We were down one late in the game and we did not block out a free throw shooter who missed an attempt and got the rebound at which time we fouled her again and she proceeded to make both free throws,” Bragg recapped. “Despite that lapse, I am incredibly pleased and proud of the kids. We did not play well this morning against Bremen but they came back and played really well tonight.” Emalee Duggins scored 23 points to lead the team. “Emi was a force. Goshen simply could not stop her,” the head coach said. Ellie Snep scored 11 points and had 16 rebounds. Kayla Schipper contributed nine points and Sarah Hewiit added four. “We turn our attention to practice and continuing to work on the little things before returning to action December 1 hosting North Miami in an important TRC matchup,” Bragg concluded.
