Saturday tournaments are something special for every player! It’s a chance to play multiple matches, to win a medal individually, and be the overall team winner! Whitko brought forth a great effort and overall they continue to improve! Kayla Schipper started off playing a challenging first round and dropping the first four games. She fought back to make the first set closer and the second, a 5-7 set. Her next match she attacked from the gate and handled it with realative ease. She finished today in third place. Mahkinsey Myers playing #2 singles, came out doing what she does best, acing opponents on serves and forcing them to play her style of game. She ended up in the championship round, with a close match she almost had enough to win but came in second place. Katherine Ousley started out the first round well, but her opponent adapted and forced a third set super tiebreaker. Katherine played for and ultimately won third place today. She was able to be more aggressive, hit great approach shots and come into the net to put the ball away! All my single players are really aggressive, and smart decision makers, which makes a coach like me, happy! First time duo of Kylie Fugett and Francesca Taddei, started off the day down 0-4 but mentally pulled through a challenging match to win the first set in a tiebreaker and eventually advancing to the championship game. Again they faced another tiebreaker but this time it didn’t go their way. They still were persistent in keeping the match close, with a strong second place finish, I was glad to see the effort given on the court by these two! Some players couldn’t make it today because of another school event, but this gave fellow freshmen, Abigail Metz and Ainsley Conner a chance to shine at #2 doubles. They came out with something to prove, taking a decisive first set with a score of 6-1. Leading mid way in the second set, an unfortunate ankle sprain forced our team to forfeit the match. It was a disappointing defeat for the two, but they should be proud of the way the played! Accidents unfortunately happen, but they were incredible today and to me, they proved themselves and have a bright future ahead!
