Whitko High School vs Tippecanoe Valley High School

Tonight we faced many difficult challenges and obstacles which ended up getting the better of us. The wind played an important factor in tonight’s match and we weren’t able to hold off both the wind and Tippecanoe Valley who played a consistent game. Kayla Schipper came out with good footwork and really seemed to factor in the wind during her shot selection. She gave us our first win of the night and has had an impressive streak against TRC teams and others. Mahkinsey Myers won the first set pretty easily but faced a challenge in the second set. She again adapted her strategy to her opponent and was able to give us our second win of the evening. Katherine Ousley had a little bit of an off night tonight but it can happen to anyone. She went for her shots but they just didn’t land. I am confident as the week goes on, she will be back to her winning self! Sometimes in situations like this, you just shake it off and know that tonight doesn’t mean every night. She kept her head up and smile on her face so I am very proud of her for that! Jaycie Thomas and Kylie Fugett naturally played another pair of seniors tonight. They got a glimpse of them a few weeks back during a rained out tournament, and really tried to come out with adjustments needed to beat them! They played a great game and had a lot of good points that went their way. The adjustments they made in a few weeks time span should give them continued encouragement that they will out pace opponents in growing in the sport! Bailey Wright and Abigail Metz (Abi) finished out our varsity lineup; playing for the first time together this evening. It was a good learning experience for freshman Abi, who saw a little faster pace shot coming at her from serves and groundstrokes. She has a lot of clean shots herself which is a great sign, now it is just a timing thing to adapt to that faster ball. Bailey finally getting to play on her strong side, has been very aggressive in her playing style. This is definitely the style of play I want to see from her, because she has been doing it very well! It allows her to stay focused and move into the net for some easy points to win. The more she continues to do this, the more she will see the advantages and will continue to help her grow in the sport as well!

Next match is home tomorrow (5/9) against Peru @ 5pm
