Peru High School vs Whitko High School
5 0

I knew going into this week that it was going to end with two hard matchups. Tonight was the first against a tough Peru team. They have been playing from a young age, and have a nice middle school program feeding into their high school. This is something I am hoping to get established as well for Whitko. Our girls have been doing a terrific job and we will be better against this team next season for sure. The tennis season is short; so taking advantage of the offseason and focusing on more than what we have been able to accomplish will help propel them to the next level. We have a dedicated team that wants to work hard, and knows it takes hard work to get to that next level. I am really proud of our team for knowing it is a challenging sport but the possibilities about how good you can become is virtually limitless! Peru was very consistent in their approach with nice high arching shots over the net; and a lot of our players have that nice arching shot as well! We will continue to develop our consistency, strategy, and placement as we go on but tonight was a team we just weren’t quite ready to handle. I’m glad with a lot of the great points, a lot of the great games, and the effort brought forth tonight! Katherine Ousley had her shots land in tonight and almost pulled out a victory for us this evening. Kayla Schipper and Mahkinsey Myers came up against a strong #1 and #2 singles. They gave it their best and again had a lot of great shots all throughout the match but wasn’t able to hang on. Jaycie Thomas and Kylie Fugett received another lesson tonight, and at the beginning of the season they probably would have lost in 30 minutes against this team but they are now seasoned and kept the fight going as long as everyone else! Bailey Wright and Abi Metz are still getting use to the partnership but individually they are showing a tremendous amount of improvement in both shots and playing style. I think it is good for all players to get singles and doubles experience and it has really helped take them in the right direction! Stay tune because we will continue to learn and grow, we will bring the fight to the other teams soon! For now, I’m glad with the progress we have made and know it is in the right direction! Good job everyone!
